Free Clothes

Sometimes I take pictures of my outfits just for fun. To capture the moment or a look even if I don't wear the clothes outside on the streets. This is one of those photos.
A friend of mine left germany to spend the term in Italy, that's why she (and she animated her sister as well) cleaned out her closet. She gave me those bags (5 !!!) and I picked the clothes I would like to keep. The rest will be getting new owners at a clothes swap party we will (hopefully) be having this term. Two of the items I kept were the skirt and this billabong hoodie jacket.
I just love it! :)

Back In The City

 So glad to be back!
Unfortunately I have at least one essay to write till the end of September, but I can have fun in the evenings only, too. That's ok. I just have to stop me from sleeping in too much. :D

Ringe Vom Kaugummiautomaten

The other day my brother, my sister and me went to a DRK secondhand shop, which is located in the Seestraße 55, 13347 Berlin. As you may know I love Kilo-Secondhand shops. My favourite ones raised the price per kilo, that's why I searched for alternate shops and I found this one.
DRK stands for Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (German Red Cross). They get the clothes from donations and are financing their projects from the sale's profit.
Inside the shop there is a kilo and a fixed price section for clothes and you can search through cupboards of old books.
The shop is a little bit unorganized as you are used to at second hand shops, but they created little corners, where they are displaying accessoires etc. and fashion posters are hanging on the wall. It is decorated heartily.
I found a red top and a black velvet pencil skirt for 5 €. I can only recommand it to you to stop buy and have a look.

After the shop we went to Schraders to have dinner. It is located in the Malplaquetstr. 16b in
13347 Berlin. So if you ever happen to be hungry in Wedding stop by. They make really delicious food.

And then something magical happend. For years and years I was and am complaining that there are no gumball machines any more, where you can buy rings. I never got one as I was a child, but was dreaming about it. So my search went on and on and on this day we found one!
Strangely they are not as they have been packed in plastic balls, so I am not sure if they are there by chance. Besides we tried it and didn't get one. But one day I will come with a lot of change and will get my ring.

Music Monday: "Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis"

The other day my brother showed me this music video.
It is the newest song from Macklemore, an american rapper/hip hop artist, and his producer Ryan Lewis.
In it's biography it is said:
"Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ music is distinct for channeling cultural moments and refreshingly self-aware testimony through candid lyricism and expertly crafted composition. [...]
acklemore’s freshman release in 2005, Language of My World, featured production by Rhymesayer’s Budo and was well-received by circles who noted Macklemore’s fresh perspective and a striking balance of insight and levity. After several subsequent years of artistic stagnation and frustration due to substance abuse, Macklemore made a commitment to sobriety with a newfound, more intrinsic dedication to his music. The catalyst to this change was establishing a partnership and ongoing collaboration with Ryan Lewis, an accomplished, consummate artist in design, photography, and production, who also acts as Macklemore’s touring DJ."

As it is about thrift shops in general (and Goodwill in particular) and I am a huge fan of second hand clothes, I thought I'd share it with you. I think it's a good song, which shows that you don't have to buy new (as in new fabricated) clothes to create a good look. Besides buying second hand can be cheap and it is environmentally friendly.
Actually, I wish there would be stores like Goodwill in Germany. The only ones, which I can think of to be similar to it, are charity shops like HUMANA or DRK secondhand shops. But it's rare to find clothes for 99 Cent there. Or did you make other experiences?

Brother Don't You Walk Away!

My brother just came back from a trip to sweden. That was his answer to if he could take pictures of me. Nice guy, isn't he? But in the end he did it.
This dress is like perfection (a seethrough one). That's why I wore another simple dress under it.
The cardigan is from DKNY Jeans and I bought it at the Garage (say: garasch!) for around 4€. It's a little bit to small for wearing it closed, but it has those little golden elephants, which are the main reason I bought it.
Besides my hair keeps growing and growing!

24 Mai 2011

Wish I had someone to shoot my pictures. It feels strange to me to take a picture of myself with a tripod in a public parc.
This outfit is a something special, because I just wear clothes I received as a gift or I bought second hand (except for the underwear and my socks :P). Let's start from the bottom: The chucks were given to me from my dear friend M as a gift for my sabbath year, my father bought me the shorts in a HUMANA store, the blazer is from a second hand shop in Israel (it's the only thing I paid for), the top is from the same shop in Israel but I got it for free (nobody wanted it) and the bag is from my grandmother. The value of my whole (outer) outfit and accessoires is around 3€, that's the reason I love to buy from second hand.
I know that there are not a lot of people, who are reading my blog, but if someone feels inspired by my outfit to show me an either all second hand or donated outfit or one that is under 10€, I would love to see and to publish it on the blog. You might get something from me as a gift as well...

Yeti!

My sister is having her birthday party at the weekend and the theme is silver, because she is becoming 25. (25 = silver wedding, got it?)
That's why Cain and me went to "Humana" at the Alexanderplatz, to find some silver pieces. I didn't find any, but this super cool, warm, fake fur coat. It would be perfect for wearing with skirts or dresses, because the hem finishes perfectly after the butt. At 39€ it was a bit high priced, that's why I didn't buy it, but I am still dreaming about it. To buy or not to buy, that is the question!
Me with this coat is like a female version of a Yeti (look down for explanational comic) and didn't Lagerfeld made this look street suitable?
