Music Monday "John Surman - Whistman's Wood"

As I was in Istanbul, my friends and I went to eat dinner in a restaurant, where you could eat organic food of the region. We felt really comfortable and stayed till it closed. The music, which was played that night, certainly made us stay that long. That's why I asked the family, which owned the restaurant, what music they were playing.
The other night it was raining and somehow the name of the artist came to my mind. It is John Surman. I searched him on youtube and found this song, which is really beautiful. The tones are played with a clearness, with a strong feeling and a beautiful melancholy, which nevertheless doesn't feel heavy.
I'd love to be able to dance to it.

"Meine Augen Fallen Mir Zu"

It's been a while. Everything is always changing around me, that's why it is kind of silence around here.
The other day I heard this song and found it beautiful. It's in german, but it's worth listening to it even if you don't understand anything.

Music Monday: The Correspondents - What's Happened To Soho?

Music Thursday: Snakadaktal - Dance Bear (Ta-ku Remix)

It's not monday, but it is music day! :D
In fact I am writing on an essay at the moment and listening to chillout and lounge music and Trip Hop. Those genres are the best background music to write something in my opinion.
Besides I am sorry for the lack of pictures at the moment, but my blogger picture space is empty and I have to decide on a picture upload side, which I will use in the future. Any suggestions?

This remix really works for me. I love the repetition of the words and the beat underlining them.
For your comparison, here is the original song, which is just half as good as the remix. But the voice of the female singer is awesome and really catchy.
Enjoy and have a good time over the coming weekend!

This is the most beautiful song I heard in a while. So I had to share it with you.
I wish you a good and relaxed week!

Music Monday: "Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis"

The other day my brother showed me this music video.
It is the newest song from Macklemore, an american rapper/hip hop artist, and his producer Ryan Lewis.
In it's biography it is said:
"Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ music is distinct for channeling cultural moments and refreshingly self-aware testimony through candid lyricism and expertly crafted composition. [...]
acklemore’s freshman release in 2005, Language of My World, featured production by Rhymesayer’s Budo and was well-received by circles who noted Macklemore’s fresh perspective and a striking balance of insight and levity. After several subsequent years of artistic stagnation and frustration due to substance abuse, Macklemore made a commitment to sobriety with a newfound, more intrinsic dedication to his music. The catalyst to this change was establishing a partnership and ongoing collaboration with Ryan Lewis, an accomplished, consummate artist in design, photography, and production, who also acts as Macklemore’s touring DJ."

As it is about thrift shops in general (and Goodwill in particular) and I am a huge fan of second hand clothes, I thought I'd share it with you. I think it's a good song, which shows that you don't have to buy new (as in new fabricated) clothes to create a good look. Besides buying second hand can be cheap and it is environmentally friendly.
Actually, I wish there would be stores like Goodwill in Germany. The only ones, which I can think of to be similar to it, are charity shops like HUMANA or DRK secondhand shops. But it's rare to find clothes for 99 Cent there. Or did you make other experiences?

Cry Baby

Today I'll give you a video overload. I don't remember if I already recommended this movie to you, even if I did it won't hurt to do it a second time.
The movie I am talking about is called "Cry Baby" directed in 1990 by John Waters. I don't want to spoil the story by telling you about it. So just watch the trailer and go watching it. It's hilarious, because it's a satire on 50s movies and musicals.

Music Monday: "Hearts and Flowers"

When the days are becoming really short and the nights are feeling endless, I only feel like cuddling up inside a blanket, drinking warm tea, reading good books and listening to old music. My favourite music is played by a grammophone and reminding me of old movies. One of the famous ones, which I state here as an example, is "Moon River", which reminds me of "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
The one I discovered today is "Hearts and Flowers", which is played by the Victor Orchestra conducted by Walter B. Rogers and  acoustically recorded 09.10.1908. I read about it in the short story "The Golden Honeymoon" written by Ring Lardner and immediately had the urge to find the song and listen to it. I love the cracks coming from the needle and the melancholic carrying melody. It fits to this season. I hope you enjoy it, too.

Music Monday: Justice - "Audio, Video, Disco"

It's a bit late, but still Monday, so this is going to be another Music Monday post.

As you may have noticed "justice" (for those who don't know them: Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay) released their new record called "Audio, Video, Disco". Or at least tonight is the record release party. But as you can see you can listen to it already via internet.
As you may have heard some people have been waiting for it since the release of the last and first record called "Cross" in 2007. What took the two frenchmen so long was the fact that the album consists entirely of self-played instrumentation, with no samples and that they had to learn how to play those instruments first.

I Personally listened to the album the first and only time today and are going to listen to it more often to get to the core. Of course, it is different to "Cross", which I loved, that's why it's hard for me to see the new art work without comparing it.
All in all, the first impression is a good one, but I have the feeling that some kind of musical climax is missing. Maybe it's too relaxed for me and I need more stress. ;)
But before giving you some hasty opinions just listen to it by yourself and write me your comments!

This is the first single. The video is really interesting, because, as my brother mentioned, this is how you imagined them to create and record their album, isn't it?

Music Monday: Gotye Featuring Kimbra "Somebody That I Used To Know"

My sister brought this music video to my attention and I think it's perfect for Music Mondays. It's from Gotye featuring Kimbra. I'm amazed about the emotions they put into their singing and the genuine truth lying inside their words.
The first time I heard and saw it, the song gave me goosebumps, because I know too well how it is to be with someone and then to lose the person completely even if it was not intended from one side.
These days it's one of my biggest fears. Of course I am meeting a lot of new people and hopefully will become good friends with some of them. But I am afraid of losing my old friends, because of something stupid like me being too busy to get in touch or thinking they have something better to do. I don't really think that will be the case, but the possibility is always there.

Oh, I guess I don't have to mention that they video itself is kept beautifully simple and underlines the message and the emotions very good.

Music Monday On Wednesday: Seeed With "Wonderful Life"

My sister laughed about me, because I didn't know that this song is a cover. But as always Seeed is making a song their song. They just have this unmistakable sound and style.

If you don't know Seeed, inform yourself about them fast!
The band formed itself in 1998 based on the concept of the marching band. In the beginning they got known for making music with posaune and saxophon. But soon they developed a passion for computer produced songs with a lot of bass.
The band name consits of the musical direction Sub, the three initial letters of the singer's alias' (Enuff, Eased and Ear) and the Reggae direction Dub.

Actually, it's one of my favourites so far, because it slows me down and gives me room for emotions. Eventhough I get a little bit melancholic, while hearing it, as I start to think about Berlin and my left back friends.

Music Monday: The Pioneers - Tunng

If you have watched "the o.c." you know, that a lot of times they used the most beautiful and touching music you can imagine. Already because of that the series was worth watching.
This is a song from the 3. season and it is touching.

Music Monday: Dream Machine

This is going to be a late music monday post, because I am currently travelling around with my cousin v. We are staying for some days at my grandmother's flat to share some parents-free-time together.
V showed me this song, which is the perfect song for a chill out. It's kind of easy going, but not in a shallow way and it's accompanying our time together.

Music Monday: Robot Bar Fight

Somehow, I love watching videos on youtube or getting videos shown. Especially if they are funny or musically interesting. That's why I want to show you this video.
I like the background music, the text, the rap, the action shown, the relation to other movies. It's just great and shows a lot of creativity.
