Talking Over The Christmas

 This Christmas was a special one. I spent it with my favourite cousin (on the left) and the rest of the family. Eventhough I haven't been disposed for Christmas, because it was and is so warm, it was still tranquil.

  On Christmas Eve we did Secret Santa and my sister got this gumball machine, which a lot of us "children" wanted. I kept my own present, which was alright, because no one seemed to want it.

 Over the first and second Christmas holidays we tried our presents, watched the movie "The outsiders", which I gave my father, ate a lot and talked about the stuff of my grandmother. She died last year and we have to sell her apartment, so my mother and aunt were asking us, what we would like to keep. We also apportioned her and my grandfather's jewelry. This was sad for me, because I still can't believe that she is dead and giving away her things is making it real. But on the other hand it feels good to have pieces of memory, which actually can be used.

A Key For A Change

 The good side of shopping is the one, when you can actually do something good, while purchasing something. I don't donate a lot, because I don't have a regular income, so the most I am spending on charity is a Euro or two for homeless people in the underground train or spending my freetime helping.

That's why I love the idea of charity campaigns, where I can take part, because it's in my dimension of spending. "A Key for Change" is one of them. As you may know half a year ago there was a huge flood in Pakistan, which by the UN was declared to be the worse humanitarian crisis ever. It killed around 2000 people and destroyed homes of about 11 million people. So if you buy a key necklace, you can build homes for homeless families in Pakistan. The description from the website, where you can buy them, reads:

ADAM & EVE Golden Leave

 

Recently I have some time, as a result from this I started going through a lot of my old magazines and cut out inspirational pictures, interesting artists/designers and fun things. 

One of the interesting artists/designers is the Swiss fashion designer Aleksandra Wisniewska. She transforms skeletons of real, botanical leaves into jewelry. Firstly, she dries the leave and dissects it as there is just the outline left over. Then she coats them with noble metals to make them durable for eternity.

Actually, she never had the intention to create her own jewelry line. Wilst doing some research for her second last winter collection, which was inspired by different leave shapes, she came across the technique of how to dissect leaves and was fascinated immediately.
