Politics is actually really interesting. I am totally immersed in climate policy, because I have to give a talk about the German climate policy and afterwards to hand in a paper about it. At the moment I am hopeful about it, I still have a week. But motivation likes to slip fast, so let's see how it will be in a few days.

The Little Rosebush

This is a little tree/flower/something, which my cousin V. gave me as a present some time ago. I just love it! Hopefully it will survive, because I manage to kill every plant. You just have to wait a while.

So the boyfriend is gone and going to Israel again for nearly to month. It feels a little awkward to me, because I thought the next time he will be in Israel it would be with me again. But if this is what he wants to do I'll support him.

Adidas Ecological Collection

Adidas is one of my favourite sports labels. Even if I don't own a lot of clothes from them. But that could change in the future, because they engaged themselves to Greanpeace to stop using dangerous chemicals, while fabricating their clothes, till the year 2020. That's why they launched their new eco collection in classical Adidas style. You will be able to buy track suits and t shirts made of 100% organic cotton and recycled polyester via OTTO.

Steffi Graf is the face of the campaign, as you can see in the promotion video (it's in German).

A Place To Swap: Netcycler

Sometimes, while browsing the net, you come across a website and you'll ask yourself: "How come that I didn't hear about it before?" Netcycler is such a site. 

It's a swap and donating service for used things. Basically you put something that you'll not longer need on the site, so someone can find it. Than you can exchange it in person or via mail with something that has been offered to you before or you just give it to the person for free.

To make this process easier Netcycler will find someone for you. You just have to list your own proposals and wishes. To increase the possibilty for a succesful exchange Netcycler will form exchange rings with three or more persons, to make sure that in the end every one is giving and receiving something. You can also use the dispatch service from Netcycler to ship your stuff. 

Sounds like a good alternative to the consumption orientated lifestyle. I think it is both ecological, sustainable and money saving. 

As chance would have it on the 11th of February the first live Netcycler "Tauschmob" will take place in Wuppertal from 2 pm to 5 pm on the Kirchplatz.

It's so cold that I thought I should give my pants a new try. They are a bit warmer than leggings.

Yesterday my boyfriend came to visit me and sure as hell we are having a really good time.

And yes these are my new favourite pair of trousers. The colour is great and there are sooooo comfortable!

Style Inspiration: Bonnie Strange

So today I want you to meet someone... let's just say ... different. The person I am talking about is Bonnie Strange. She is a photographer, model, blogger, singer, songwriter, stylist and probably even more.

I've never met her in person, eventhough she is living in Berlin at the moment, but I've seen her on various blogs so far, that's why I had to check her out.

She seems to have a lot of energy and claims herself to be a anti fashion superstar. She definitely loves to change her haircolour very often and dye it in popping colours.

I can't decide if I find her disturbing or wonderful and really interesting dressed. But I'll definitley follow her to figure it out.

Celebrating Silvester 2011/2012 - The Actual Party

So, I discovered that I forgot to tell you about my new years eve and sylvester.

We started the night at my friends place with some raclette, drinking, dancing, playing Twister and chit chatting.

My friend's outfit: the dress is from Vero Moda and the hat from Gorgeous.

 My outfit: Actually the dress is in A-line shape with sequins beneath the neckline therefor it's looking like coming from the sixties, but unfortunatley you can't really see that here. It's from Mango.

And why am I so blurred???

After a while we went to the club Steinhaus to dance into the new year.

Around midnight we decided to go out to enjoy some of the fireworks.

And then we headed back to the club to dance till our feet were bleeding. ;)

Just wanna say: "Hi!"

It's been only two weeks since I've left Berlin, but it already feels like one or two month. Crazy!
I try to decide, which topic I should choose for my Hegel seminar paper, trying to figure Germany's climate policy out and meanwhile the whole university is discussing the future of our university and faculty. A student's life is interesting, exhausting, relaxed, boring, fun and making a bunch of new friends. I still can't believe I am actually studying. This feeling will probably last till I gave in my first seminar paper. But let me start first. :D

Talking Over The Christmas

 This Christmas was a special one. I spent it with my favourite cousin (on the left) and the rest of the family. Eventhough I haven't been disposed for Christmas, because it was and is so warm, it was still tranquil.

  On Christmas Eve we did Secret Santa and my sister got this gumball machine, which a lot of us "children" wanted. I kept my own present, which was alright, because no one seemed to want it.

 Over the first and second Christmas holidays we tried our presents, watched the movie "The outsiders", which I gave my father, ate a lot and talked about the stuff of my grandmother. She died last year and we have to sell her apartment, so my mother and aunt were asking us, what we would like to keep. We also apportioned her and my grandfather's jewelry. This was sad for me, because I still can't believe that she is dead and giving away her things is making it real. But on the other hand it feels good to have pieces of memory, which actually can be used.

My brother had some fun with the rings and watches from my grandfather.

The Last Year's Glimpses

So the new year is already there and I am still relaxing and thinking about christmas. So expect during the next week some christmas and silvester pictures.

Those were taking by my sister, while we were celebrating the christmas holidays at my cousins place. It was my first christmas outside of Berlin, but it was nice and relaxing.

Writing Wishlists

 Do you know that? While you are writing your Christmas wishlist you can't think of anything you really want. But after you finished it all the stuff you ever really wanted is coming to your mind? 

No? At least it's the same for me every year.

Eventhough I don't want to have so much presents this year, because I just have too much things and are getting tired of possessing them, because there is something more important than owning. I wouldn't mind to have one of those clothes or accessoires from Lazy Oaf. Too bad I didn't think about it beforehand. But next year is coming fast...

Crepes With Chocolate Chips

The day befor yesterday in the evening some from our seminar met to make lactose free crepes. There is a living community in W., which owns a hob just for making crepes, and I invited myself and others to benefit from that. We made made savoury and sweet crepes, listened to good music, drank some wine and talked a lot. It was a perfect evening and I hope that it's the beginning of a tradition. :)

Speaking Of Knitwear

Since I've been in Israel, every cold season the quest for a cardigan starts in my head. (Even though I didn't buy one over the last year.) Besides I discovered yesterday that I have no "normal" jumper to put on, maybe because I'd rather wear cardigans, but it would be nice to have one.
So this post is going to be about jumpers and cardigans I would like to have, but the probability of buying one of them is really low. One of the main reason is that I can't figure out, why I should pay a lot of money for something, which is made from acryl or other synthetic fibers. I don't like the feeling of them and I start to sweat really fast, while wearing them.
So in the end I will either go to a secondhand store, where I buy what pleases my eye, so that I forget to think about the fabric that much, or I will end up buying the one, which includes the most natural fibers. (Or I won't buy nothing, who knows? :D)

Having said this before, I just start with a hypothetical shopping spree through my favourite online shops and brands. 


If I'd start with a jumper, one like that would attract my attention, because it looks extraordinary. 
Unfortunately I am too reasonable. It's just not a winter jumper, isn't it?

The next one, which I nearly bought because it's 100 % cotton, is kind of perfect. The colour is amazing, it has an interesting pattern and it's made from pure natural fiber. I think it was just the fit, which didn't convince me. (49€ from COS via COS)

Every time I think about a jumper, I'd also like to have a jumper dress. Which I can throw over a pair of leggings or thights put on some boots and tadaaa: Instant outfit. :) This one could have been perfect, because it's long enough and made from merino wool, but the shape didn't convince me. Today I'll give you a video overload. I don't remember if I already recommended this movie to you, even if I did it won't hurt to do it a second time.

The movie I am talking about is called "Cry Baby" directed in 1990 by John Waters. I don't want to spoil the story by telling you about it. So just watch the trailer and go watching it. It's hilarious, because it's a satire on 50s movies and musicals. 

The Importantness Of Events For W.

You have to know there are some people, who are just complaining about missin events in W. On the other hand, there are the people, who are actually doing something like planning events, which can and are taking place in W.

Such as tonight, where I went to a Singersongwriter-Festival and it was really nice. 

The first reason of why it was a good event was, that it took place in a cafe, which was closed after the husband of the married couple, who owned the cafe, died and two new cheeper cafe opened, which the wife couldn't handle alone. It has been left in a really good state, all the original furniture is still there. So I felt like I've been taken back to my grandmother's times and going with her to a cafe in vienna. I immediately wanted to order a "Schwarzwälderkirsch Torte" (blackforest cake, which they actually sold there). It's such a good idea to revive such a beautiful place and give it some meaning again.

The second reason was that the musicians were great. I heard and saw a girl, who was like the fusion of Knives Chau and Ramona Flowers (You know, from Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.). We all have a major girl crush on her now. :D She and her band(s) were fantastic and she gave me the idea for a haircut.

So whoever planned this event. Please keep doing that, you are doing absolutely great!!!

When the days are becoming really short and the nights are feeling endless, I only feel like cuddling up inside a blanket, drinking warm tea, reading good books and listening to old music. My favourite music is played by a grammophone and reminding me of old movies. One of the famous ones, which I state here as an example, is "Moon River", which reminds me of "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

The one I discovered today is "Hearts and Flowers", which is played by the Victor Orchestra conducted by Walter B. Rogers and acoustically recorded 09.10.1908. I read about it in the short story "The Golden Honeymoon" written by Ring Lardner and immediately had the urge to find the song and listen to it. I love the cracks coming from the needle and the melancholic carrying melody. It fits to this season. I hope you enjoy it, too.

My friend Fes suggested an event, which will take place at the alexander place in the "PLAY" (Alexanderstrasse 7, 10178 Berlin). The music will come from the DJs Till Havoc & Simon Schönberg and they will play House, Elektro, R'n'B, Charts & All time favourites. You will get a Sexergy Welcome Drink (whatever that means) and Fortune Cookies for free. They also have an Open-Air-Lounge.

You can hear "Right Now"-live at the Kesselhaus, there will be a Urban Dance Floor at the Club23, there will be a Schlager party tent (not so interesting for me :)), besides electro will be played at the SODA Club and there will be the 90s party "Move it!" in the Palais. In addition the Frannz Club, the Alte Kantine, the Maschinenhaus, the Ramba Zamba, Pool & Cigars, the Galerie im Pfedrdestall und the Moon Floor will be open. 

With the ticket, which costs 29€, you will be able to

move flexibel between all the locations.

Here is another suggestion from me, which could be my favourite even though it's just on one dancefloor, but you get sparkling wine and a buffet, celebrating in the Steinhaus.  

The specials are:
sparkling wine reception till 10 pm, a Longdrink Happy Hour from 10 to 11 pm, a rustic buffet (whatever that means), a Berliner buffet, Tequila for just 1€ the whole night, snacks for free and fire crackers for the first guests. 
The music will be: 
All time favourites | 80s | 90s | Pop | Schlager & Disco

The ticketprice is 10€ and 15€ at new years eve directly at the club.

Celebrating Silvester 2011/2012

So soon will be silvester. As we were sitting in the shushi/cocktailbar Zaza  last sunday, we were discussing where to celebrate silvester this year.  Of course, it should be in Berlin and this time we thought about going  to a club or a bar. The big questions are: Where do we want to go and  how much can or should it cost?

We  thought about the Zaza bar itself, because you there will be a sushi  buffet and drinks are included. They also have a DJ called Stella  deStroy, so everything you would want for a successful silvester evening  will be there. Just the prize is with 59€ a little bit expensive. 

That's why I am going to do some research about possible places to go.

As  always I discovered by chance, that the Cafe Moskau has been opened  again. It's placed in the Karl-Marx Allee 34 and that there will be a  new years eve silvester party called "Back in the dayz".

The motto will be: NO HOUSE, NO BULLSHIT, NO BLABLA.... So there will be 90's R'n'B, Hiphop Classics, Funk and Soul of the 70's and for the Ladies (as they say) Slowjams, Miami Base and Dancelhall Classics served by DJs Wenk & Fresh. It will cost 20€, which is ok, if you meet up at someones place to drink and eat before.

Then there will be something like a silvester festival called "Spreesafari" at the "Alte Münze" presented by we love Berlin. They try to entice us with DJs like Lexy&K-Paul, AKA AKA or Sascha Braemer, so there will be something for everybody. Besides we could choose where to dance between three rooms, which is always good. We can choose to pay 25€ for a regular ticket or 60€ for an VIP-ticket, which will include no waiting in the line, access to the VIP-section, meet and greet with the acts, unlimited all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (included are Heineken, Mixery, water, Coca Cola, Fanta, Sprite, apple juice, Smirnoff Vodka, Jägermeister, Captain Morgan, Whiskey), together with all long drinks made from the above-mentioned drinks.

So far those are some options. I am going to update and post more during the next days. :)

"Life In Blue" Evzen Sobek

As soon as it becomes December the good old "What should I buy as a present?" question pops up in my mind. One thing I would always be happy about receiving is a Photo Book.

This one shows the series "Life in Blue" from photographer Evžen Sobek. He documented life on the banks of a reservoir in the southern Czech Republic called Nové Mlýny. This manmade recreation area has become a second home to a lot of people, which are staying there in tents and caravans. It became a  place where they have spent their vacations for decades. 

Sobek pitched up his tent in 2007 at this artificial lake to observe the life of the local residents. While doing this he asked himself, what the reason was for those people to spend their vacation in this "strange emptiness" - in a place, which is neither luxurious nor perfect.

To get some answers he accompanied the people during their daily spare time activities. The answer he found was that such a community could satisfy the need of living in companionship with each other, which may not be able in a city anymore.

The answer is interesting and the pictures are stunning, especially the blueness.

Monochromatic pictures or paintings have a kind of mesmerizing effect on me. It's something you don't see very often in daily life, which gives the picture a certain kind of specialness.

Dancing Through The History Fashion

For the opening of the biggest shopping mall inside a city in europe, which was opened this year, in East London, this commercial has been created. It shows sequential a pair of dancers, who are wearing, while dancing to different kind of music from the changing decades, varying clothes from 100 years of fashion during 100 seconds. 

In my opinion, this is an interesting and creative idea and has been carried out well.

That Rose Pattern

 You may not see it at first glance, but in the last time it feels like my life is just based on chance. I went home (to Berlin) over the weekend and it was pur coincidence that I saw my hair straigthener and thought something like: "Oh, I may try it again." I didn't straighten my hair but curled it around the hair-ends and it turned out pretty nice.

It was pure chance, that there was enough fabric left over from my curtains so that I could make a skirt out of it.

Honestly, I think life is just a chain of sequenced coincidences, but I can live along with this thought, if the outcoming is a contenting one. ;)

 It was good and weird to come back to Berlin. My room is quite empty now and my parents changed some things in the bathroom, which feels strange to me. But I forgot how nicely quiet my room is in comparison to the room here. 

 The first time I tried to make the skirt, I ended up sewing a pencil skirt, which I am going to finish in December, when I figured out how.

What I did to sew this full skirt was just whipping the hem, sewing it together to a tube and then adding an elastic band. Unfortunately, it is a little bit too loose, but I could wear it on my hips, too. So it didn't come out too bad.

 What I love the most about it, is the pattern. It's quite funny to wear a skirt, which matches your curtains. 

The first time I wore it outside was, while attending the fluxfm (former motorfm) work party with my sister, which was a blast!

Colour

Sometimes colour is everything, which makes me feel that a picture or photograph is special. It's one of the main things I think about while taking a picture. I just love the reduction of colour in a picture, because it starts to become abstract. Something more than just the reflexion of reality. Pure beauty.

In the Sky Series taken by photographer Eric Cahan colour is the main subject. That can be explained by his influences, which include Mark  Rothko, James Turrell, and the Light and Space movement, a brand of  minimalism that originated in Southern California in the 1960s and  focused on perceptual phenomena such as light, space, volume and scale. On his website it is stated, that he believes that “light is not so much something that reveals, as it is  itself the revelation.” 

The  photographs in the Sky Seriesm, which I am about to introduce to you, consits of photographs of sunrises  or sunsets. Cahan uses as many as four different cameras ranging from 6  x 7 film to digital. While using dozens of graduated filters, which are  traditionally used by filmmakers, his aim is "to create a window  into a time and a place, and to demonstrate how memories and colors  shift and become abstract." Till he gets a result, which is seamless and free of banding or blemish, he produces chromium prints of each image dozens of times. "Beyond technical description, the picture evokes the presence of, and  the artist’s reverence for, nature at its most sublime."

He himself says about his art: “My work is meant to capture a  moment in nature, asking and empowering the viewer to be fully present,  involved, and uplifted. I want the viewer to be drawn in, and be  completely absorbed by, rather than separate from, that fleeting moment  in time.”

Dancing On The Tabletops

 Wish I'd find someone, who'd take pictures of my outfits. It's easy to get them taking this way, but it's quite unsatisfying in the outcome. Eventhough I like this serial of pictures, because it shows the lightness quite good. 

Last saturday evening I went to youth cafe called "Treff" (Meetingpoint) in the small town I am living now, because two DJs (one came even from Hamburg) were playing Ska, Funk, Soul and 60s music. I think it's hard to find a good mix like that nowadays and they did it really well! I had a blast while dancing and playing table soccer.

 Besides I love this dress so much. You can't see it, because the pictures are so blurry, but there has been two little swans stitched on right under the collar with white pearls. They give it a Vegas vibe, so it's my ultimate party dress. 

I bought it after my interviews at the university in Dortmund at TK Maxx, so it's also lucky charm for me. :)

And  you know why? Because life itself is filled with no reason. Why can't  we see the air all around us? No reason. Why are we always thinking? No  reason. Why do some people love sausages and other people hate sausages?  No fucking reason.

One of the best things about studying is that I get to meet a lot of people, who are all coming from different backgrounds and therefor have totally different ideas and thoughts about things. There are two things I love to get inspired by other people: One is music and the other is movies. Sometimes those two things go hand in hand together. I mean what is a movie without the soundtrack and what is a good song without a musicvideo? 

One of my student colleagues loves Justice as much as I do, but (as always) he is more obsessed with them. I somehow seem to have lost my ability of being obsessed with things at some point in my life. But hopefully some day it will come back as suddenly as I lost it.

Anyways, we watched a movie together called "Rubber" directed by Quentin Dupieux (who is also well known as Mr Oizo, who created Flat Eric). It's about a tire, who after he discovers his destructive telepathic powers, soon sets his sights on a desert town; in particular, a mysterious woman  becomes his obsession. The reason why my friend knew about this particular movie is that Mr Oizo teamed up with Gaspard Auge from Justice for the soundtrack. So you can expect really good music during this movie.

Honestly, I don't think this movie is one the general public would like to enjoy. It has a confusing maybe even somehow disturbing plot, eventhough in the first few minutes the movie explains itself through Lieutnand Chad (as you can see in the quote above). So if you can get used to the thought that there is absolute no reason for anything in this movie, it does make sense. Actually, it didn't bother me so much, because you see great and beautiful pictures, well set camera angles and the soundtrack is amazing. All in all, a movie which I am grateful about that I could enjoy it, even if it left me with a feeling of "What the fuck?". If you are able to see it one day, take the chance, it's worth it!

One of the things I am getting in touch with more is art science. That's why I thought it could be interesting to start to share some art and artists with you. Eventhough fashion is in a way some kind of art, too.

To start with I discovered this picture via THE YEAR IN PICTURES and was taken from the New York Times. The photograph on the left came into being after Nan Goldin has been given free access to the The Louvre on the days it was closed to the public. 

The painting on the right is from 1855 and the artist is Ary Scheffer.

This comparison shows one thing that you might already know and which was brought me close on thursday: Most of the artists get inspiration from other artists or maybe even from art made by themselves. It's not like they make a painting or a photograph out of nothing. I just think it's a sedating thought.

Actually, I thought about doing something like that, too. Look at photographs or painting I like and try to do a new piece in my way.

What I like most about the photograph are the hidden faces. It could be every body on this picture.

As I told you no more clothes till November. With one exception: SOCKS!

And if I think about socks Happy Socks comes to my mind. I don't know how I came across this label. You know how it is, you look for something and there is an interesting link, which leads to another link and from there to another page and suddenly you have found something amazing. Happy Socks is something like this.

Honestly, while enjoying to wear fashion socks never occured to me as being fashionably. I normally love my socks black or midnight blue so they fit to everything and to answer the purpose intended: warming my feets. But after looking around on the homepage, I changed my mind. I need all those socks, now!

As all beautiful things nowadays those socks are designed in Sweden. How could it be different?

Music Monday: Justice - "Audio, Video, Disco"

It's a bit late, but still Monday, so this is going to be another Music Monday post.

As you may have noticed "justice" (for those who don't know them: Gas­pard Augé and Xavier de Ros­nay) released their new record called "Audio, Video, Disco". Or at least tonight is the record release party. But as you can see you can listen to it already via internet. 

As you may have heard some people have been waiting for it since the release of the last and first record called "Cross" in 2007. What took the two frenchmen so long was the fact that the album consists entirely of self-played instrumentation, with no samples and that they had to learn how to play those instruments first. 

I Personally listened to the album the first and only time today and are going to listen to it more often to get to the core. Of course, it is different to "Cross", which I loved, that's why it's hard for me to see the new art work without comparing it. 

All in all, the first impression is a good one, but I have the feeling that some kind of musical climax is missing. Maybe it's too relaxed for me and I need more stress. ;) 

But before giving you some hasty opinions just listen to it by yourself and write me your comments!

This is the first single. The video is really interesting, because, as my brother mentioned, this is how you imagined them to create and record their album, isn't it?

The semester started and I have to read about 300 pages already. Fortunately, most of them till November but still it's a frigthning amount.

Nevertheless I am glad, because I managed to fit some English in my timetable. Even if it's American English, which I wouldn't prefer, the professor will hopefully help me to improve my English.

Besides I've already met a girl, who went to the same grammar school with me. Isn't that crazy? I start to think the world is like a small town.

My sister asked me what I am doing in my free time. One of the things I do is cooking. My female flatmate is a good cook and I hope she will teach me a lot of dishes. But I am totally satisfied with eating pasta every day. :)

Besides I forbade myself to buy new clothes (maybe except socks) at least till november. Eventually I am going to wear every piece of clothing I took with me. This decision feels great.

My sister brought this music video to my attention and I think it's perfect for Music Mondays. It's from Gotye featuring Kimbra. I'm amazed about the emotions they put into their singing and the genuine truth lying inside their words. 

The first time I heard and saw it, the song gave me goosebumps, because I know too well how it is to be with someone and then to lose the person completely even if it was not intended from one side.

These days it's one of my biggest fears. Of course I am meeting a lot of new people and hopefully will become good friends with some of them. But I am afraid of losing my old friends, because of something stupid like me being too busy to get in touch or thinking they have something better to do. I don't really think that will be the case, but the possibility is always there.

Oh, I guess I don't have to mention that they video itself is kept beautifully simple and underlines the message and the emotions very good.

Painstakingly trying to make my room nicer.

There is a dream in my head about me wearing a jumper which is long enough to cover my bum (something like a jumper dress). Which means I can put on some leggings, throwing the jumper dress over, put on some boots and tadaaa: comfortable autumn outfit. That's why I bought this sweater in 42. But as all H&M clothes do it shrank. Now I have a wide not long enough jumper. Actually, I don't understand why the clothes don't become longer, when you add a size. They just get wider. Aren't there any tall and round people out there?

I am off to climb around in a forest. :)

I wanted to share it with you, because it is very beautiful that she is actually doing something with the clothes she is wearing. In a lot of editorials you just see models standing around in clothes, in contrary to that Polina is playing with her body and the clothes she is wearing. It's like every new outfit is a new role she has to play. The result is refreshing to see.

I just took about half my clothes with me and therefor bought a small wardrobe. Of course it won't stay like that, I just need a hanging gaderobe.

Blog Reference: One Portrait A Day

For a while I've been reading this blog called "One portrait a day". It's made by a photographer called Jørn Tomter,  who is originally from Norwegia, has been living in Berlin for a while  and moved back to London some time ago. He has set himself three simple  rules for his blog:

"1) I have to photograph a person I never before have met
2) I have to photograph and post the same day
3) I always ask before I shoot"

He  says about himself, that he has a passion for photographing people. He  loves looking at photos of  strangers shot on location and writes that  by time each photograph gets even more  interesting. The camera is his  key to access strangers' houses, go to  interesting places and tell  stories.

It's  interesting how much you can achieve with three simple rules and a  camera. In each post he shares one picture and a little story about the  person or the cirumstances of how the picture has been taken. 

For me it feels like he opens up the world a bit by showing normal every day people and their stories.

Especially the picture I have chosen to show you from his blog is so interesting and kind of different to what you can see on normal street style blogs. She wears an outfit I would love to sport, but somehow it feels that it wouldn't fit me, because my body is not as curvy as hers. Nevertheless she looks so great!

My New Room

Just trying the webcam quality of my mac, which is kind of bad. But it's a very easy and lazy way to take pictures.

As you may see, I moved to another city in consequence of starting to study. I am missing a lot of things in my new room, such as a mattress (try to find a futon here), a ceiling light or a cable to connect my iPod with speakers (music is important! :)). But all in all it's a nice room. 

Today I did a lot of cleaning and unpacking boxes(first outfit) and I hope I am ready soon. 

Later that day I met the first students of my term and we discovered the city together. (Second outfit) This was quite nice and even those, who have been living there for quite some time discovered new places.

I will try to figure out, what this change will mean to the blog. The next two weeks I will have a little bit more time to post and I will try to keep you updated about my personal life a little bit more, but of course will mix it with fashion. But when the term is really starting I'll probably need some time to figure everything out.

BORED! :P

EDIT: By the way, I sewed the pants from my first outfit and the jumper and the tights from my second outfit are from hess natur. It's such a good quality!

Music Monday On Wednesday: Seeed With "Wonderful Life"

My sister laughed about me, because I didn't know that this song is a cover. But as always Seeed is making a song their song. They just have this unmistakable sound and style.

If you don't know Seeed, inform yourself about them fast!

The band formed itself in 1998 based on the concept of the marching band. In the beginning they got known for making music with posaune and saxophon. But soon they developed a passion for computer produced songs with a lot of bass.

The band name consits of the musical direction Sub, the three initial letters of the singer's alias' (Enuff, Eased and Ear) and the Reggae direction Dub.

Actually, it's one of my favourites so far, because it slows me down and gives me room for emotions. Eventhough I get a little bit melancholic, while hearing it, as I start to think about Berlin and my left back friends.

The Golden Cap

Believe me or not, but the best clothes are always in other people's closets!

As for example this longblouse, it was just hanging there in my cousin's closet room. I took it, pulled it over, asked for a leggings, got a grey one, put on the cap and tadaaaa: Instant outfit for a warm but a little bit windy day. That's why I took this whole outfit home. 

Maybe you remember me writing about those "fashion coincidences", such as searching something, not finding it, therefor stopping to search and then getting or finding it later. That happened with this cap. One or two month ago, I thought about buying one in yellow, but my (impolite) brother told me to forget it (didn't fit). 

On Thursday some nice friend gave me this one and I am totally happy with it. :)

After a quite long abstinence I thought I should share another outfit with you. Unfortunately our Internet connection isn't really working, so don't expect too many updates soon.

Yesterday was a day, which seemed to be one of the last days of the late summer. It was quite hot, so I went to the jumble sale at the cassiopeia. For me it feels like the Mauerpark jumble sale before it became famous and big. A good place to find some cheap clothes, to hear nice music, to rumble around stuff from private sellers and eat delicious food like bruschetta or gözleme. Because all the alternative people moved to Friedrichshain the atmosphere is totally different and for me more relaxed. 

I bought the dress some weeks ago together with my cousin in the secondhand store colours and I thought I wouldn't get the opportunity to wear it before next summer, but luckily the weather turned good.

Basic Tees For Tuesday

Thinking of moving to another city soon to study there, forces me to reckon about which things I want to take with me and which I am going to leave at my parents place. Of course my clothes are coming to my mind too. 

I have a bunch of t-shirts I really like, but sadly nearly never wear, because they are not long enough or they have a not satisfying pattern. So I came to the conclusion I have to replace them for better fitting ones.
   

Besides I want to buy some basic shirts in a broad range of colours. I like the H&M shirts, because they are very long and have a good pattern, but the quality and the production of the shirts are not convincing me. 

So the other day I searched for some basic t-shirts on avocadostore.com and found the online shop of Fairtrademerch. Their shirts have been set with the FAIRTRADE-seal, are made from organic cotton and they are of good quality. Furthermore they are reasonable priced with 15€ per shirt.

I just don't know if the cut will please me. That's why I am going to order a green basic tee from them to try it out.

This is going to be a late music monday post, because I am currently travelling around with my cousin v. We are staying for some days at my grandmother's flat to share some parents-free-time together.

V showed me this song, which is the perfect song for a chill out. It's kind of easy going, but not in a shallow way and it's accompanying our time together.

What happens with our clothes, after we got rid of them? 

With increasing consum also the clothpiles are growing. Germans are leading in textile consumption: They buy 28 kilo a head and year. Just under half of the clothes are given to charity after their use. The rest of it will end up as garbage on a disposal site or in an incinator. 

Fortunatley there are some fashion labels, who discovered the value of used clothes. One of them is the Berlin based label aluc. They are cutting up jumper and t-shirts and putting them together to new clothes. Each piece is a unicum and part of the "Mein Hansi" project.

But that's not enough. In the textile industry huge piles of garbage from new cloth are originated while producing apparel. Those fabrics are new and aluc is using them for their shirts. They drove to the Erz mountains and to Austria and saved good-as-new fabrics from ending up as garbage. 

Besides the shirts have a special twist: The collar is attached with buttons and you can remove it easily or change it to another one.

They say about themselves:

... conceptual projects, rejecting the processes of mass production.
... ecofashion, that goes far beyond.
... clothes that tell a story.

we believe , that fashion can be produced fair, social and local. We don't want to join the fast, inhuman and wasteful fashion industry.

About a year ago was searching for green clothes via internet extremly exhausting. That's why the founders of Avocado Store, Philipp Gloeckler and Stephan Uhrenbacher, had the idea to built a platform for all german producers of green products. Besides it should be easy for the costumers to find green products and compare their prizes.

As you can see the idea was a fast-selling item and now they can present you over 100 seller and about 2.000 products on their website.

I think the site is a great idea not just for the customers. It's good, that especially small seller make a profit from being able to present their products in a professional environment, because they don't have the means to create their own website yet.

There is also a blog, where you can read about specials, discounts, the labels from the avocado store and a lot more.

The Underground Book Jacket

A wee while ago it was my father's birthday. Last year my brother had the idea to make him a book jacket out of the fabric, which is used to cover the seats in the underground trains. I loved the idea, because my father is collecting books and therefor needs book jackets to protect them. Besides it's just funny, if he's sitting in the train and reading a book, which is covered in the same fabric as the seats.

Luckily I knew a friend, who had some pieces of that fabric left, so I could sew a useful and unique book jacket. 

Actually, I think I am going to buy more of the fabric and sew some for me and my brother and maybe friends.

Getting a tattoo is still on my mind.

I just need to figure it out with a girlfriend of mine.

There are always the thoughts about how it will look on the skin later, when you are getting old, and what will happen, if you start to dislike it.

Because it's a permanent thing, a lot of thoughts in advance are inquired.

And at last, it hurts. Why should you put yourself in a place of pain?

I like the idea of a tatto being a piece of memory.

It's like taking or drawing a picture just that it will be on my body.

It could represent a phase I went through or a part of my personality I want to underline.

That's why I wouldn't want one, which is just beautiful.

The one on the picture contains just a word, but it makes me smile.

You can think about it so much.

"Shalom" is hebrew and means "peace", but in Israel it's used on an every day base to say "hello".

So the question is: Does she want peace or is she just saying hello to you?

Besides it's not written in hebrew but in the english phonetics.

So, can she speak hebrew, but is not able to write it? Is she jewish?

I love that a tattoo can avoke so many questions and thoughts in the people, who see it.

Brother Don't You Walk Away!

 My brother just came back from a trip to sweden. That was his answer to if he could take pictures of me. Nice guy, isn't he? But in the end he did it. 

 This dress is like perfection (a seethrough one). That's why I wore another simple dress under it.

The cardigan is from DKNY Jeans and I bought it at the Garage (say: garasch!) for around 4€. It's a little bit to small for wearing it closed, but it has those little golden elephants, which are the main reason I bought it.

Lately, it feels like I just listen to the music my boyfriend recommends to me. But after listening to this song again and again it got stuck in my head. I catched myself at humming the melody, singing ("I'm a DREAMER!") and dancing around to the imaginary beat. You see, it can't be a bad song.

It's always amazing how a change of the white balance is changing the mood of a picture. The first picture has been shot in shadow mode and the second in automatic mode. 

I found this overall at H&M, while shopping with my cousin and I just love it. Actually, I wanted an oriental looking one, but this one is also nice.

On Sunday two weeks ago we went to the Mauerpark Flohmarkt, then ate with my family at an Indian restaurant, went to D&Ch, chilled a bit in the back courtyard with F, went to the Mauerpark to sit there, met M and T and went to the Samosh. It has been a nice good bye day, evening and night for my cousin and I still miss her.

Sometimes my life is getting weird.

I wore this on thursday two weeks ago. One of the best weeks of summer so far and I wish she would have stayed longer!

On the day we wanted to go to the movie "The Bang Bang Club", but she got ill, so we stayed at home. Someone came and brought us music, which made the day somehow useful.

Music Monday: Ariel - Stateless

Thinking about doing it for a while, I thought the idea of a 'Music Monday' could be an interesting one. 

Lately, I've gotten a lot of new music impressions. One of them was and is Ariel from Stateless.  It's the first single they release on 'Ninja Tune' (a record label my boyfriend is telling me a lot about lately) and the first song I've been listening to from them. With the song Stateless is exploring the eternal struggle within all of us, the battle between good  and bad, imagined here as a fight between the protagonist, the titular  Ariel, and the Devil.

What intrigued me most was the music video. The design studio FIELD recorded an improvised dance using motion capture technology, and digitally animated a beautiful visual accompaniment to the original track's futuristic electronic soundscape.

As an extra here is a remix, which is taking the best part of the song and making it a somehow different experience.

Probably all of you know the streetartist Banksy, eventhough nobody seems to know how he looks like. 

Julia Kim Smith imagined how a life with Banksy could be and created this fictious photospread. She is a conceptual artist whose work explores issues of  identity, memory, and the artistic, social, and political landscape.

Fashion Station 2011: A Look Back

 As I told you, I went to the Fashion Station. Me and my sister had a great time, while watching a fashion show and browsing through all the fashion labels inside the underground train. 

I like it, that the BVG is coming up with such kind of events.The underground train is such a big part of Berlin that it would be a shame, if the BVG wouldn't make room for fashion or art. They closed one platform of the U5 for public transportation. So that on one track in a (not moving) train was room for about 14 fashion labels from Berlin to present and to sell their collections. 

 In the middle of the platform a tent with two catwalks has been built.  During the day every two hours you could see a fashion show with pieces  of three labels from the Fashion Station. The following pictures are from one of those shows. (I didn't take pictures of the first label stoffbruch.)

The second label was Hexenstich. Heike Neugebauer has made it her task to make women without mannequin shape looking good. As you can see she is really good at it.

 Those perfect fitting, beautiful red Marlene trousers are made by zehnle von langsdorff. Since 2003 Tina Zehnle and Yvonne von Langsdorff have been measuring more than 1000 women. From this experience they develop trousers, which are fitting perfectly and are reasonably priced.

All in all, it was a great event and fun to be there. The models did a really great show. Just the train could have been a little big wider and the lighting better, but that's how it is in an underground train...

So, last friday we first went shopping (outfit is coming soon) and in the evening we went to the Fritzclub. We danced and danced and danced. Met different people, went to McDonalds and finally made our way home (me barefoot). There is one advice for you: Never ever go dancing with new shoes!

 So much was going on last week. We had a party, there was fashion week and I just attended the Fashionstation and the opening party (which was strange in a good way), I went around with my cousin a lot, we ate a lot, we drank a lot, we had fun... a lot! 

Actually, I tried to not buy clothes this month, because I will visit my cousin soon and I wanted to save money for that. But she went shopping and so did I and I ended up buying stuff. Not much, but for example this dress. It's from 24colours. A shop I found online and discovered later that it is existing in Berlin (Oderbergerstraße 20) for real. They sell clothes with a nice twist in a similar price range to H&M's.

There haven't been the Fashion Station yet and already there is the next underground fashion thing planned:

On the 6th of July two underground trains starting at the underground station Alexanderplatz (U5) are going to be the places, where you will be able to see the "Chevrolet Underground Catwalk". From 7 pm young fashion designers are showing their collections in driving underground trains. 

This years premiere are the two different fashion shows in two different trains with two different themes:

TRAIN 1: STREET COUTURE
Warm–up: 7 pm
Boarding: 7:30 pm

TRAIN 2: U–COUTURE
Warm–up: 9 pm
Boarding: 9:30 pm

Train 1 presents hip and urban denim-, street- und sport styles, such as puma, swatch, Hauptstadtrocker. Train 2 is showing young fashion designers and underground label collections themed Rock’n’Roll, Pinup, Punk, Gothic, for examle Tollkirsche, Queen of Darkness, Iron Fist, Ambitious.

All the collections will be presented by the models from the agency ROCKSTAR MODELS.

Tickets are valid for one train only.

The STANDARD TICKET is at 17€ plus booking fee (incl. aftershow party and concert), the VIP TICKET is available for 65€ plus booking fee (incl. privileged boarding + access to the VIP area at the aftershow party).

Tickets for the AFTERSHOW PARTY (only!) at SAGE CLUB with WIRTZ live on stage can be purchased at the entrance of Sage Club starting at 9 pm on July 6th for 10 €

There will be NO BOXOFFICE at the venue!

Fashion Station 2011

A lot of fashion in about 100 meter underground train. Next week on the 30th and first of July from 10 am to 8 pm you can poke around multifaceted collections from selected Berlin designers, try clothes on and if it's pleasing you buy it on the spot. The underground station U5 Alexanderplatz is going to be a colourful shopping lane and catwalk.

Naturally you don't have to pay an entrance fee.

This sounds like a lot of fun to me and I will definitely take a look at the designer the clothes and the underground station. Someone wants to join me?
